The Genesis – Birth
Urban Company was founded in 2014 by Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Raghav Chandra, and Varun Khaitan. The founders were alumni of IIT Kanpur and IIM Ahmedabad and had worked in various companies such as McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Twitter, and Qualcomm. The founders realized that there was a huge gap between the demand and supply of quality home services in India. They decided to create a platform that would connect customers with verified and trained service professionals who could offer various services such as beauty, wellness, home repairs, cleaning, etc. The founders started with an initial investment of Rs 10 lakhs and later raised more than Rs 10 crores from various investors such as Accel Partners, SAIF Partners, Ratan Tata, and
others. The company started with a few hundred service partners and now has more than
35,000 service partners on its platform
